You Light Up The Sky
to show me... you are with me!
Impromptu date nights are the best. And one of them happened for Sandy and me on June 7th.
It was a Friday night. We had nothing planned. I had looked a calendar at school and realized that this would be a good weekend for viewing the Milky Way. Did I want to go out all night… my photography heart said yes, but my mind and body said no. I laid down on the couch to get a good nap in before bed.
That’s when we started to watch the Royals game and I remembered that during the summer, they shoot off fireworks after the game. A new plan was hatched. I got on google maps and looked for a good place to view the fireworks from. Once I found a location, I asked Sandy to go with me. Always willing to hang out with me as I do my photography she quickly agreed. We asked our kids if they wanted to go also, and they both declined. The date was on.
We headed to our secret location (sorry, I don’t want too many people showing up). We sat in the car talking, reading, and watching the game on our phones (by the way, Youtube TV is awesome!) As the 9th inning came to an end we got out and got the camera set up. Then we stood back and watched as the sky was lit up by fireworks.
The amazing things that GOD allows us to do and see are… well amazing. Why then is it so often that we forget those amazing things and focus on the dull, monotonous things of this earth? Things in our daily lives can either draw us closer to GOD, or farther away.
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.
Where do we focus? What do we spend our time on? How much time do we think about GOD? Who, or what, do we love? HE wants our focus to be on HIM completely. HE wants us to spend time with HIM continuously. HE want us think about the good he has done for us constantly.
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things.
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.
For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the SPIRIT, about the things of the SPIRIT.
As this week begins, my prayer is that we can focus more on GOD and less on this world. Watching the firework show after the Royals game was amazing… but lets remember how much more amazing it will be to get to HEAVEN and see GOD face to face!
