If Your Eyes Are On The Storm...
You'll wonder if I love you still.
But if your eyes are on the cross,
You'll know I always have and I always will.
Life can surely beat you down. You begin to doubt… you begin to worry… you begin to question. I recently was going through a tough spot. Many things in my life seemed to be spiraling out of my control. My car was in the shop more than it was on the road. The clothes dryer wouldn’t dry, no matter how many times I replaced the parts. I had applied for a promotion… in November and still hadn’t heard back. I was looking for a way to fulfill my calling to teach bible class, and wasn’t finding a way. I started to feel very low, and didn’t see a way out.
That’s when I heard this song on the radio in early March. This one section in particular really spoke to me. I was in a storm, and my eyes were on the storm. I needed to be looking at the cross, not the storm. The BIBLE reminds me to keep my eyes on JESUS. In Matthew 14, we read about Peter walking on water.
“LORD, if it’s YOU,” Peter answered HIM, “command me to come to YOU on the water.”
“Come!” HE said.
And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward JESUS. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “LORD, save me!”
Immediately JESUS reached out HIS hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Peter was walking on water… until he started to look at the storm instead of JESUS. What a great lesson to learn. How much more could I accomplish if I would focus more on JESUS and less on the storm of life around me. I need to not forget all the wonderful things GOD has done for me.
HE created me.
For it was You who created my inward parts. You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
HE chose me, to accomplish great things for HIM.
You did not choose ME, but I chose you. I appointed you that you should go out and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the FATHER in MY name, HE will give you.
HE has plans for me, and they are wonderfully awesome plans.
“For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the LORD’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to ME and come and pray to ME, and I will listen to you. You will seek ME and find ME when you search for ME with all your heart.”
I actually spend quite a bit of time looking at actual storms. I need to use that time to remember that even the real world’s storms, with lightning and thunder and rain, are from GOD. They should be to me a reminder of how powerful and awesome the GOD that I serve is. When I see the lightning flash across they sky, I should remember JESUS, and how he will return, and the hope I have in HIM.
On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a loud trumpet sound, so that all the people in the camp shuddered. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet GOD, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke because the LORD came down on it in fire. Its smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently. As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and GOD answered him in the thunder.
For I know that YAHWEH is great; our LORD is greater than all gods. YAHWEH does whatever HE pleases in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the depths. HE causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. HE makes lightning for the rain and brings the wind from HIS storehouses.
For as the lightning flashes from horizon to horizon and lights up the sky, so the SON OF MAN will be in HIS day.
