There's Is No Magic in Magic...
It’s all in the details.
Walt Disney said those words, and they are so true.
In the teaching of math, I stress each and every day the importance of being careful, taking your time, and being organized. In short… pay attention to the details. It is a constant fight helping them to learn that one tiny little bit of bad organization can lead to huge issues later in a problem. The real world isn’t that much different. We all need to make sure we realize how important each and every little decision can be, and the affect that it can have on our lives later down the road.
Bird banding is a huge part of conservation. Nets are used to capture birds as they come to feeders. The birds are then examined (male vs. female, age, overall health, etc.). A band is put on their leg. If the bird already has a band that information is recorded as well, and can be used to figure out how long that bird has been around.
Bird banding is a great process to watch, and the conservation agents are so good with the birds. They also are great at engaging the audience. I highly recommend taking kids to one as they will get to see some pretty amazing birds up close, even get to touch them, and possibly even be the one to release them.
Watching bird banding reminds me of how GOD is. HE is a GOD of order. HE is a GOD who cares so much that HE knows how many hairs are on my head. HE created the universe, and the rules that the planets, sun and stars follow.
1 Corinthians 14:33
GOD is not a GOD of disorder but of peace.
But even the hairs of your head have all been counted.
When I observe your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you set in place,
GOD doesn’t skimp on the details, and I’m glad HE doesn’t. I make so many mistakes that it would be easy for HIM to just let me fall through the cracks, to forget about me. But HE doesn’t. Max Lucado has a great short story called “The Choice” I know most people don’t know me as emotional, but every time I read this story I cry. I start to ball like a little baby. GOD is so into the details, that he created the tree that he would be crucified on! Please take time to read it, I hope it affects you as much as it does me.
Back to photography. On January 5th, I was able to go see a band birding even at Burr Oak Woods in Blue Springs. I also saw one in March of 2017 but didn’t do a post about it so the pictures here are from both, as well as some of the many banded birds I’ve photographed over the years. I hope that as I continue the this passion of mine, I can look with new eyes on those little bands, and see a much bigger picture.
Our GOD is a such an amazing GOD…
