You Are The Dancing Queen...
Young and sweet
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen
Over the course the last several years, I’ve covered may sporting events at Fort Osage. One of the parts of the events that I never really realized was happening was the half-time show. I knew that band always marched since I was in marching band and knew how that worked. I never really realized the work the dance team, like Fort Osage’s Indianettes, put in for the games.
Coach Samson teaches two doors down from me and is the sponsor for the Indianettes. She works with them nearly every day all school year long. They learn new routines for each game, as well as new routines for each assembly. That’s some dedication!
The Indianettes dance with joy in their hearts, and music in their limbs. You can see it when they dance. They are constantly smiling. I can’t help but believe that GOD would like us to be more like them. Dance. Show our love and joy. In times that are good. In times that are bad. Just dance for HIM. The BIBLE talks about it a bunch. Here are some of my favorite verses about dancing.
“YOU turned my lament into dancing;”
“Let them praise HIS name with dancing
and make music to HIM with tambourine and lyre.”
“Then the young woman will rejoice with dancing, while young and old men rejoice together.”
On February 23rd, the Indianettes took part in the Class 4, Lyrical Dance State Competition. It was a very successful day for them. They brought home the 3rd place trophy, and also had two members named to the Academic All-State Team. What a great day to be an Indian… or an Indianette in this case. I’m proud of them. I’m glad I got to capture some images for them this last year. GO FORT!
