There is a season… (Turn, Turn, Turn)
While it’s from a song, it’s also from the Bible. From a book that is often avoided, and thought to be about sadness. I find it very inspirational though. There is so much help for making it through this life. For understanding why things work out the way they do. For finding meaning in what we do. Here is the section the Byrds used for their song.
“There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven:
a time to give birth and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to uproot;
a time to kill and a time to heal;
a time to tear down and a time to build;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance;
a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;
a time to search and a time to count as lost;
a time to keep and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to be silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.”
This song and these verses were on my heart as I edited photos from a current senior portrait shoot. It all started on October 28th. Gayla McGowan contacted me about setting up a time to take senior pictures of her daughter Hannah. We met at Starbucks on the 29th to hammer out the details. We decided to try to take some images on November 10th at Burr Oak Woods.
I prepared just like I always do, memorizing some poses, and some looks that I wanted to accomplish. I gathered up my gear. I made sure that the batteries were charged, the reflector and modifiers were packed. I did a double check of everything and then… weather. The low was 13 and the high was 38 degrees. WAY too cold to take pictures.
We sadly had to postpone… FOREVER. I was beginning to worry that we wouldn’t be able to get them done this year (2018), but then we finally found a day that would work for both of us. We planned to try for December 26th. But then… more weather… RAIN. We had to postpone again. This time only for four days.
It was finally December 30th when we were all able to meet and get some images taken, and it was perfect. There was a time for this session. Not when we had planned, but when GOD had wanted it to happen. This whole experience was a great reminder to make plans, but remember that GOD will make things happen in just the right time.
“For I know the plans I have for you” - this is the LORD’s declaration - “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
“The course of my life is in YOUR power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors.”
“Instead, you should say, “If the LORD wills, we will live and do this or that.””
