And Life Is A Race We Run...
So run till the race is won.
On August 25th, I was able to spend an afternoon with one of my senior track runners. It was so much fun working with her and capturing some amazing images. Thanks Brooklyne, for allowing me this wonderful opportunity.
I met Brooklyne her freshman year. She came to winter workouts a couple times, but was unable to do the workouts due to an injury from cross country. The injury was so bad that she actually missed her entire freshman year of running.
When she came out her sophomore year, she dealt with some more injuries that really hindered her performance. I was amazed however at her willingness to keep working in spite of all the setbacks she was having. There is something to be learned from the hard work she was putting in. Something to be said for the desire to overcome that she had.
Joshua 1: 9
Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Her teammates recognized it as well, and she quickly became a leader, though only a sophomore. So much a leader, that when another runner qualified for state, she requested that Brooklyne be allowed to come as well to room with her and be her running partner while we were there.
Brooklyne's junior year was the year we finally got to see what could happen when a healthy Brooklyne would step on the track. She had an amazing year. She ran a PR in every event that she ran. She ran the third fastest mile time while I've been a coach, and the fifth fastest two mile time. It was so much fun to see her succeeding.
I'm eagerly waiting for track to start up again to see just how good she can be. I'm also very proud of her faith. She went to Honduras this last summer to do missionary work. She's a good runner, but an even better person.
Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us...
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
1 Corinthians 9:24
Don't you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize.
