I See HIM Riding on a White Horse...
Sandy and I were married on July 17th. We would love to celebrate our anniversary on that day every year, but as our children have gotten older it is nearly impossible. Baseball, band camp, soccer camp, tennis... you name it and its probably going on at that time. So we have worked hard to celebrate our anniversary during a special trip every year.
We have been going to Prairie Meadows Racetrack in Altoona, Iowa for most of the years we've celebrated our anniversary. I found out quickly that Sandy loved horse racing and going to see live races just seemed like something special we could share. We leave early in the morning, eat a nice lunch on the way up, and check into the hotel. We then head to the racetrack to have supper and watch the races. We get back up in the morning, go out for breakfast and head home. It is a great trip and a wonderful time to reconnect without kiddos.
This last week we made the trip for our 19th anniversary. It was amazing fun (just like always) and I can hardly wait until we get to go back. Last year (2017) I spent some time taking pictures (until security said that my camera was "too professional" to be used). Sitting down next to the track is amazing. Hearing the pounding of the hoofs and seeing the majesty of the animals up close is amazing.
"The horses’ hooves then hammered— the galloping, galloping of his stallions."
I was able to capture images from the first two races. It was so much fun. Here are some of my favorites.
