Hello!

Welcome to my site. I take photos, and learn life lessons. I hope you are inspired by what you find.

Ezra 7:10

“Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the LORD, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.”

They're Playing Basketball...

... We love that basketball.

One thing that I've learned so far in photography is that I don't know near enough to be doing the job I try to do!  On November 18th, I was asked to do a photo shoot for Fort Osage Women's Basketball.  They were wanting team pictures to use on a calendar, and some individual photographs to use on banners.  I love Fort Osage and quickly agreed.  We planned to do a shoot outside, which I'm quite comfortable doing (all of the senior portraits I've done have been outside).  However, the day came, and so did the rain.  We had to move the shoot indoors....

While we were able to capture some acceptable images for the team to use, I feel like I should have been able to do much better.  I'm definitely going to have to practice more on my indoor photography, as well as get more gear to help (like off camera flash!)  It was a great experience working with the team, and Coach Thompson, and I hope they have a great season.  I also hope to work with them again and do even better!

Here is one of my favorite team photos that we did. I love how they are all posed differently but still look like a team. I spent about an hour removing items from the background in Photoshop. I wish we could have done the original plan, and I wouldn't have needed to do so much post processing. I also only have my kit lens for shooting wide angle, which isn't very sharp, and also doesn't let in much light. My next purchase will be a fast, wide angle lens.

I really liked this team image also, however I didn't spend time doing Photoshop. You can tell the difference in these first two images with how distracting the background is. I also wish that I would have paid attention to things like their hands. I wish I would have had the opposite sides hold their hands opposite, so that they would be more symetrec.

After taking some straight on, I took some standing in the balcony. I love this one. The only thing I wish is that I would have been able to use better lighting than my on camera flash, and a sharper lens. Amazon... here I come!

After several shots from above, I decided to try a shot from below.I really like the look of this one, but really wish the background was cleaner. Why is it that gyms don't just have big white walls?

After the team shots, We took some time to do some senior group photos. This is an amazing group of leaders that will help the team to grow and be successful this year. It was a lot of fun working with them.

After the senior group shots, we spent some time doing the individuals for the seniors. Here is senior Ally Young. She really seemed to like this pose, and I really liked it in the muted colors.

Senior Peyton Huber isn't near as outgoing as the other two seniors. She took direction very well however, and we captured some great images.

Senior Camryn Miller is a natural in front of the camera. She did a great job capturing the right expression and look that I had in my head. Good luck this year Camryn (and I hope to see you out for track again also)!
